Nepal General Informations

Nepal (officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal) is a landlocked country located in South Asia and is the 41st most populous country. It is located in the beauty of The Himalyas & is bordered at the north by the People's Republic of China and by India to the east, west & south. The  world's ten tallest mountains, including the highest point on Earth; Mount Everest, called Sagarmatha in Nepali & Chomolungma in Tibetan & Sherpa languge, happen to fall in Nepal.We have more than 240 peaks which are over 20,000 ft (6,096m) above sea level. The southern region 'Terai' is peculiar for its fertility and humidity. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, is also located in this region. It is one of the places most sought after when it comes to the world's great religion'Buddhism'. Nepal contains important evidence about the nature of Buddhist pilgrimage centers from as early as the 3rd century BC.

History of Nepal


    Officially known as the Democratic Republic of Nepal, Nepal is a small Himalayan nation located in Asia between the two large and fast evolving nations China and India. Nepal shares its borders with both China in the North and India on the other parts, mostly the South. Nepal has a proud history that it has remained sovereign since the very beginning and it enjoyed its status as an independent state even when the British colonized across the nation including neighboring India.

      A Himalayan nation located in South Asia, Nepal is roughly trapezoidal shape with 800 kilometers long and 200 kilometers wide. It has an area of 147,181 km2 and it is located between latitudes 26° and 31°N, and longitudes 80° and 89°E. Nepal is located in between two giant nations India and China, with Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Maldives being its other immediate neighbors

      Culture and Customs

        Though Nepal is a small country geographically, it is very rich culturally as it is multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural. Various ethnic and tribal groups have inhabited the country since time immemorial. Ethnic groups like Brahmin, Chhetri and several indigenous groups like Newar, Gurung, Magar and various others have inhabited this country for hundreds of years. Though Nepali is the official language of Nepal, but most of the ethnic and tribal groups have their own language.

        People and Languages

          As per the census of 2011, Nepal's population grew from 9 million in 1950 to 26.5 million in 2011. This tells the rapid growth of the population in Nepal, as in many countries, with time. Traditionally Nepali familyused to follow the joint system, with the grandfather, father and son residing in the same house.

            As stated earlier, Nepal is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country with more than 100 indigenous nationalities residing in the country since hundreds of years. Going by that, there are many festivals which are celebrated by some distinct ethnic group. However, there are some major festivals that are celebrated by people from all the caste and creed. The two major festivals of Nepal, celebrated by almost all the people, are Dashain and Tihar

Nepal’s climate ranges from tropical to sub-tropical depending upon the altitude. The Terai region, which lies in southern part of the country, for instance, has a very hot and humid climate. The mid-land and the hilly regions are pleasant almost throughout the year, although morning and nights in winter are quite cold.
