One of the most popular and the biggest Nepal’s annual festivals takes place on the kingdom of Himalaya’s on the monsoon, when the clearest blue sky is over the horizon. This festival symbolize that good always prevail over bad. Vijaya Dashami, is a family occasion. Greetings are exchanged and parents place a tika on their children’s foreheads with Jamara(Seeds which is planted on Gatasthapana which grows 3-5 inch long) on ears or head and blessings.
There are various stories and themes behind Tihar. One of the famous concepts behind the tihar celebration is related to the goddess of death “Yam”. Generally Tihar refer as ‘Panchak Yama’ which literally means ‘the five days of the underworld lord’. Tihar is also considered as Festivals of Lights.On these five days we do everything possible for making Yam raj happy, as Yam raj is going to judge our vices and virtues after our death, and treats our souls accordingly.
